Introdution
An Elevating Devices Mechanic constructs, installs, services and maintains elevating devices including elevators, lifts and escalators. Specifically, an Elevating Devices Mechanic:
inspects, services and maintains existing elevating devices
installs new elevating devices
rigs and hoists elevating devices
installs and maintains control equipment
installs and maintains protective devices
Elevating Devices Mechanic is a trade regulated by theTVTO. Qualified individuals may obtain a Certificate of Qualification, which confirms its holder has the skills, knowledge and experience that meet industry standards of practice for the trade.
Duration of Course
Training program consists of on-the-job and in-school training. Generally, the time-frame to become competent in the trade of Elevating Devices Mechanic is 8,200 hours (approximately four years) consisting of 7,480 hours of on-the-job work experience and 720 hours of in-school training .(536Hours Practical and 184 Houres Theoritical)

Minimum level of education: High school diploma or higher
* Minimum related experience: 7480 Hours

NOTE: If you have not enough experience in Elevating Industry you may choose our Elevator and Escalator Installation Technician's program. it takes about 3 years’ full time study and apprenticeship in elevating Industries
IN-SCHOOL TRAINING
An Elevating Devices Mechanic apprenticeship includes three levels of theoretical training, which includes but is not limited to instruction in:
mechanical print reading
ladders, scaffolding, work platforms, rigging and hoisting
mechanical practice
traction elevator installation
elevator hydraulic systems and installation
industrial electricity for elevating devices
motors, generators, controls and alternative current drives
solid state electronics/circuit tracing
escalators and moving walks installation
lifts for persons with physical disabilities
Elevator modernization/alterations
Foundamentals of project contract mangments
Elevator and Esaclators Codes and standards including EN81 and A17
All topics cover the traning requirments of LEIA of the United Kingdom and TSSA Association of CANADA
